Design research | Service design | UX design

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

How is the working behavior of Health workers?
What are the Difficulties they face during and after data collection?
How do they respond to everyday work and in case of emergency?
What are the strengths as well as weaknesses in current services?
What are the technologies used by frontline health workers and possible ways to use it?
What are possible ways to do equal distribution of workload among HWs?
How to make their work visible?
How might their information interdependencies be eased for free and streamlined flow of data across the disparate elements?
What are other ways to envision and design work flow to support them in their everyday work?

DESIGN APPROACH

Understand and discover  Primary understanding of frontline health workers work practices

Define and prioritize  Detailed interview, activities and further requirements prioritization.

Ideate and develop  Ideating possible designs and considered inputs from participants.

Outcome  Contemplated participants feedback and worked on output.

1. SECONDARY RESEARCH

Why?

  • To gather information about all FLH

  • To Understand the workflow of ASHA ANGANWADI and JHA Worker

  • Along with this also look at various existing technology use by frontline health workers to know the current use of technology

  • To map of it their work to see the pattern of their work.

2. USER RESEARCH

Why?

  • Did user research at the field to know actual inground workflow, the behavior of FLH.

      User research includes:

      2.1 Pilot session

      2.2 Interviews

      2.3 Storyboarding session

Interviews

How?

The visual form of the interview

Why?

  • To overcome the language barrier.

  • To know their day in the life

  • To comprehend their feeling, experience of work while providing maternal care service

  • To understand the procedure to collect data

KEY POINTS:

From foundation research

Though they are from different health service provider their work overlap with each other

At each stage of pregnancy, their service is necessary

Data is the key source for them to provide good care.

From technology review

There are many applications are catering frontline health worker separately.

It is possible to carry a lot of data in one hand with the help of mobile.

In future interaction of mobile health and health, providers will help in many ways to provide better care.

mHealth plays an important role in providing health care

Value of using mobile technologies in the healthcare sector is changed and it will continue to change.

From interviews and storyboarding sessions

Lack of communication between Asha and Anganwadi worker

Different levels of actions and services

Overlapping roles of frontline health workers

Informal nature of health care service delivery

Repetition of data

DEFINE AND PRIORITIZE

TOWARDS DEFINING MORE FOCUS INTENT

Here deeply look into the data collection methods, different medium of data collection as well as data communication.

Research Method includes

Contextual inquiry

Interview with pregnant women

Research activities

Contextual inquiry

Screen Shot 2019-05-29 at 5.36.40 PM.png

How?

The semi-structured interview was conducted in ASHA and Anganwadi worker’s workplace.

Why?

To obtain information about their work

To observe their behavior, issue while performing work

To know their working pattern which I didn’t able to observe during the previous interview.

Interview

Why?

To understand the point of view of pregnant women about the service provided by Asha and Anganwadi worker

Research activities

1 Evidence gap map

Why?

From the beginning of research- semi-structured interviews, the contextual inquiry I always heard common sentences “Samajha Jata Hai”, “Pata Chal Jata Hai”, “ho Jata hai” but I was not able to find the proper reason behind it. To get a clear response and to know the reason behind their sentences I use a methodology called - ‘evidence gap map’

2 Paper prototype

Why?

To understand AW and AWW view on ideas around the current system.

To see what type of improvements they can see in the existing system for the future.

To understand what value each data has for each health worker

To know what data they prioritize and purpose of prioritizing data.

What are AWW and AW workers wishes for their work in the future?

To understand their idea of the digital data storage platform.

To know their opinion about new tech.? How they respond, critique idea? What is important for them?

TOWARDS PRIORITIZATION

This stage gathered all the data. Next step was to prioritize needs, values of participants

This stage includes

Journey map

Analysis and synthesis

Task profile matrix

Tasks prioritization

Analysis and synthesis

Why?

To identify patterns from research data.

During the synthesis of data, it is organized according to their relation. All data is a cluster in the form of What is happening (Findings) - Why it is happing (insides) - How it can be handled (future scope)

Task prioritization

Why?

To prioritize the features in design

Journey map

Why?

To understand both ASHA and Anganwadi workers feeling, thinking, doing and pain points at each stage.

Screen Shot 2019-05-30 at 11.32.50 AM.pn

Task profile matrix

Why?

To analyze and examine tasks performed by ASHA worker and Anganwadi worker build a task flow matrix. This also helped me to create a scenario in the next phase.

DEVELOP AND VALIDATE

This phase was to ideate - develop - design. Which followed by user story which helped to build design

Building the backbone of the design

Method includes

Develop user flow

 task flow

 Information architecture

This stage includes

User story

Building the backbone of the design

Exploring different design

User story

Based on research, activities and analysis identify the true needs of participants also considering their priorities and pain points build user stories. Which expresses a specific need that ASHA and Anganwadi worker has. These stories are the main focus during design.

This process was involved a lot of back and forth work. Many changes happen during usability testing.

OUTCOME

This stage includes

High fidelity wireframe

Service design

Snehita - a friend in Kannada language

logo color - the dress code of Anganwadi and ASHA worker

Explanation- the logo form letter ‘S’ and also it shows connection and communication with both color (i.e. with ASHA and Anganwadi worker). Space where both come together and provide health care service collaboratively.
